Certificate II in Community Services Work & Professional Nanny Award

The Professional Nanny Award is CHARLTON BROWN®’s signature course. This course is an ideal entry point for students wishing to care for and facilitate the learning and development of children in a home based environment.

Students study a range of subjects to gain an understanding of how children grow and develop. 

The course includes practical experience organised by CHARLTON BROWN in a family home environment usually with a baby and a toddler or multiple birth babies. 

The Nanny Award includes professional development units that aim to enhance the students’ professionalism in the role as a Professional Nanny. These units are unique to CHARLTON BROWN’s course and consist of:

 

  • Senior First Aid Certificate;
  • Self Defence;
  • Life Saving;
  • Defensive Driving;
  • Professional Image.
 

Certificate III in Children’s Services

The Certificate III builds on the Nanny Award introducing students to work with groups of children in child care or pre-school centres.

Students study a range of subjects to assist them in gaining knowledge about the care of children in a group care context. Students learn how to facilitate children’s play and learning by providing stimulating activities. 

Graduates of the course are qualified to work as an assistant in a child care centre or as a nanny in Australia or overseas.

Subjects in the Certificate III include:

  • Understand how children grow and develop;
  • Learn how to take observations on children and how to keep parents informed;
  • Create and illustrate your own story;
  • Create self- help activities for children.


As part of the course, students complete hands on experience in a child care centre with children of all ages.

 

Diploma of Children’s Services

To be eligible to study the Diploma, students are required to have completed the Certificate III in Children’s Services.

CHARLTON BROWN’s Diploma can be used to increase a student’s knowledge base or as a pathway to University. 

On completion of the Diploma, students are qualified to work as a Group Leader in a child care centre or as a nanny in a family home.

Students develop skills in establishing and managing plans for the development of children.


Skills include:

  • Learn how to interpret and apply your observations on children;
  • Learn short and long-term organisational skills and time planning;
  • Learn how to organise experiences for children of differing ages and abilities.


As part of the Diploma, students complete practical experience in a child care centre working with children of all ages.

 

Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services

(Includes Certificate III & Professional Nanny Award)

This qualification provides students with practical, administrative and managerial knowledge to manage staff and children in care environments.

Students who complete the Advanced Diploma are qualified to work as a Director in a Child Care Centre, a Group Leader and an Assistant or as a Professional Nanny in a family’s home.


Skills taught in the course include
:

  • Administrative duties including managing rosters and ordering equipment;
  • Leadership development;
  • Learn how to liaise and communicate with families, staff and the community;
  • Learn how to manage a child care centre;
  • Learn how to supervise trainees and students.


Whilst studying with CHARLTON BROWN Advanced Diploma students gain hands on experience in the management of a child care centre through the coordination of every-day activities and issues over a six month period.

Out of School Hours Care is care for school aged children.
